Seriously Playful Clowning Workshop

  • The Egg Theatre 36 Monmouth Street Bath, England, BA1 2AN United Kingdom (map)

Seriously Playful' is a clowning and improvisation workshop led by Marina Sossi, regularly held at London Bubble Theatre and The Merlin Theatre Frome and now coming to The Egg Theatre Bath as part of ‘Curious Minds Festival’ 2025.

You don’t have to be funny or clever or a performer to take part!

The workshop takes you through a step by step process that starts with releasing tension, energising the body, finding movement and vocal expression to stimulate a more spontaneous and natural state of playfulness. This is followed by improvisation games and clowning exercises that offer full permission to be silly, have fun and step into the spotlight. Finding the inner clown unmasks and liberates us from the stress of being a grown up and challenges the limiting thoughts and self judgements that block our creative flow.

If you are curious and would never usually try anything like this, it's definitely for you. Belly laughs and magic moments guaranteed!

Total beginners and the slightly terrified all welcome!

Reviews from recent participants:

'Marina's workshop at the Merlin last weekend was superb... So much more than clowning or acting in general, it provided a recipe to live life to the full and squeeze enjoyment out of every possible moment. It also equipped us with the skills and confidence to improvise and perform'.

'The energy in the room was electric... The laughter was more than surface-level amusement; it was the kind that springs from genuine, uninhibited human connection. It reminded us all how rare and beautiful it is to truly let go of our guards and embrace the moment with childlike wonder'.

'The day left everyone inspired and uplifted, with one resounding conclusion: Marina's workshop was unmissable!'

'If you are feeling uninspired, flat, exhausted or overwhelmed, Seriously Playful is guaranteed to return you to a more energised and creative version of yourself'.
